Grant Funding for R&D from Innovate UK, UK Research Institute, Research Councils & Horizon Europe
Many organisations would welcome the opportunity to develop transformational new products, processes and services that will help differentiate them from their competitors.
You may already have ideas on what you want to develop, however ideas are worthless if they are not put into action. Four very common barriers cited are:
- We lack the cash to research and develop these ideas further
- We do not have the time as we are too busy running our core business activities
- We do not have the resources – either the scientists, engineers or the facilities needed
- We do not have the route-to-market or customers in place to commercialise our ideas
Do any of these look familiar?
Now the good news!
There is help out there. Both the UK and EU government funding agencies have made available significant grants for research and development for ambitious organisations that are keen to achieve high growth.
The great news about such grants is that unlike bank loans, they do not need to be paid back! And, unlike financial backing from venture capitalists or business angels, there is no equity or intellectual property dilution.
The UK government funding agency UKRI, a branch of the Department of Business and Innovation & Skills has also made available over £2,239 million for 2021 for research programmes. Grant contributions typically range from £25k – £2m. And there are hundreds of such funding opportunities each year to go after. Further, the EU through the new Horizon Europe programme have made available €100bn for research and innovation between 2021-2027. Despite Brexit UK organisations can still apply for some of the funding programmes.
Practically all industry and technology sectors can attract support from these grants.
